Jay-Z, Mariah Carey Lead Summer Platinum and Gold Record Certifications

Jay-Z‘s twelfth solo album Magna Carta…Holy Grail sold more than one million copies while Kanye West‘s Yeezus was awarded a gold plaque for selling more than 500,000 copies to date. Other rappers who were awarded included J. Cole, who reached gold status with his Born Sinner LP, and Kendrick Lamar who received his first platinum credit for his debut album Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City.

Elsewhere, Mariah Carey‘s new song “#Beautiful” featuring Miguel became a platinum single in the US after scanning one million digital downloads.  The song becomes Mariah’s 13th platinum or multi-platinum single in her career to date. Her first album in three years The Art of Letting Go, is slated to be released later this year.

In July and August 17 album certifications and 87 digital singles were awarded. Complete lists of all album, single, and video awards can also be accessed via RIAA.com.
