Heather Wines/CBSJennifer Hudson never had aspirations to pursue acting prior to landing an Oscar-winning role in 2006’s Dreamgirls.
According to Billboard, the singer revealed that her late mother, Darnell Donnerson, was the one who suggested she become an actress.

It was actually my mom who was like, ‘Jenny, I think you could act.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, whatever, Mama,'” Hudson recalls. “Then I turned around and won an Academy Award on my first film. The only other acting experience that I had was [when I performed] on the Disney Wonder cruise ship.”
