Jennifer Hudson knows what it’s like to be criticized for her physique. Following the scrutiny of The Biggest Loser winner Rachel Frederickson‘s dramatic weight loss, the singer is voicing her opinion on the matter.
Hudson, who lost more than 80 pounds after she teamed up with Weight Watchers in 2010, tells People that “the key about losing weight: You have to do it for you.”
“It’s not about even starting the journey, it’s about you,” she explained on the red carpet before the taping of the 2014 BET Honors in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. “You have to want to do it. And you can’t let what everyone has to say overshadow what you want for you.”
So how does JHud keep her healthy diet on track? The singer says she maintains her weight by “tracking my points — sticking with the plan with Weight Watchers. That’s what I try to do and take it with me everywhere I go.”
Meanwhile, Hudson shows off her svelte figure during an Aretha Franklin tribute at the BET Honors ceremony, airing February 24 at 9 p.m. ET on BET.
