Last year saw Jhené Aiko guest star on Drake‘s Nothing Was the Same and J. Cole‘s Born Sinner as well as release her Sail Out EP. Now the singer reveals during an interview with Vibe that she is finalizing her solo debut, Souled Out, which will be released later this year.
“May 2014. Souled Out,” she tells Vibe. “I have a song called ‘Promises’ with my daughter Namiko Love. That, right now, is my favorite one.”
She adds that the upcoming project will be personal with songs similar to the last track on her EP, “Comfort Inn Ending.”
“It was the most raw and I think the most honest I think I’ve ever been,” she says. ” With the album, its definitely going to be more songs in that same vein of me just really not even second-guessing what I’m saying. Not a lot of actual writing on paper, but me just going into the studio and saying how I feel.”
Aiko adds that fans can also expect “more visuals” from the EP before she unleashes her first studio effort.
