Credit: Jhene AikoJhene Aiko is inspiring young people to write with a new campaign kicking off today for National Writing Day.

The three-time Grammy nominee launched her “PennysPen” program, named after her alter-ego Penny, in conjunction with GetSchooled.com. She is inviting youth ages 13-21 to post poems and other forms of writing with the hashtag #PennysPen. Aiko will award 100 winners with her special writing kit including a custom pen and notebook.

“There are days when we struggle, and life seems hard, but it always helps when we can express ourselves,” Aiko says. “When it seems like no one else understands, our journals can be our best friends. Writing poetry has always been a form of therapy for me. It helps me reflect and get through difficult situations.”

The deadline for the contest is October 29, 2017. For details, check out GetSchooled.com
