Jhené Aiko wants you to Vote

by

Def Jam RecordingsSunday night’s episode of black-ish featured a new original song from Grammy-nominated singer Jhené Aiko, titled, “Vote.”

Fresh off her #1 album Chilombo, Jhené wants to help raise awareness about the upcoming November election.

“I just want to get to the ballot/ I just want to feel like I’m valid,” she sings on the track. “It’s the best way to make my voice heard/ And it should be automatic/ That’s my American right/ I just wanna focus on my vote.”

“Vote” was released ahead of the hour-long election themed episode of the ABC’s black-ish, which featured two back-to-back episodes of the Johnson Family, in preparation for the upcoming election. Junior, played by Marcus Scribner, explores his journey as a first-time voter, while his father Dre, played by Anthony Anderson, launches his own exploration into local politics.

“Now more than ever it is vital that we all VOTE,” said Jhené in a press release. “It was an honor working with black-ish to bring you this song.”

The special episode was directed by Oscar winner and Hair Love author Matthew A. Cherry. The official season seven premiere of black-ish will air on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
