Jill Scott Confirms She’s Working on Two New Albums, Says “Melodically I’m Going to Be Different”

by

The Chamber GroupJill Scott seamlessly juggles her thriving music career with her growing acting career. And while she’s focusing on the latter — she’s currently promoting her upcoming romantic comedy Baggage Claim — the singer has already begun recording her next studio effort.

I’m working on two albums at the same time, and it’s proving to be a lot more challenging than I initially thought,” she tells Ebony.  “But I’m still in it to win it.  I’ve completed most of the Lullaby album that I did with Robert Glasper and John Roberts — my son’s father…the album is not like any lullaby you’ve ever heard, and they’re all original pieces.”

But in addition, for her loyal fans she’s cooking up “a studio project with David Banner and 9th Wonder and Leo.” She then hints, “We’re writing and… I don’t even want to say who I’ve done a song with because I don’t want to ruin it for you.  I’ll just say it’s a California rapper.”

One thing’s for sure, fans will likely hear Jill depart from the familar on the second disc.  “I’m looking for change, the music is different, because it has to change.  It means that melodically I’m going to be different. My background vocals are gonna be different.”  She adds switching is necessary “to say the things that I’m about to say [on the album].”

While there’s no word on when she will release the follow-up to 2011’s The Light of the Sun, you can still get your Jill Scott fix by seeing her in Baggage Claim, which hits theaters on September 27. The flick also stars Paula Patton, Trey Songz, Lala Anthony, Boris Kodjoe, Tia Mowry, Taye Diggs and more.
