John Amos is joining Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones and Shari Headley on the list of original stars of the 1988 comedy classic Coming to America who are returning for the sequel, Coming 2 America.

Deadline reports that the Good Times star will reprise his role as Cleo McDowell, owner of  the McDowell’s fast food restaurant where Murphy and Hall’s characters — Prince Akeem and Semmi — worked when they traveled from Africa to New York City. McDowell is the father of Headley’s Lisa McDowell, who married Akeem at the end of the original film.

As previously reported, Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Rick Ross, Jermaine Fowler, and KiKi Layne will also appear in Coming 2 America. In the sequel, Akeem learns about a long-lost son and must return to America to meet the “unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.”  Kiki Layne plays Akeem’s daughter.

Coming 2 America is scheduled to open December 18, 2020.
