ABC/Randy HolmesJohn Legend is racking up more credits with his production company, Get Lifted Film Co. Get Lifted has signed on to create a new reality series Sing It On, which is inspired by the film Pitch Perfect.
The series follows “five university a cappella groups competing for a spot at the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella finals at Carnegie Hall.” Legend’s company has partnered with the new CBS/Lionsgate cable venture Pop for the upcoming show, which revolves around a concept that Legend can relate to personally.
“I had so much fun singing a cappella in college,” Legend, who sang at the University of Pennsylvania, said in a statement. “The music, the friendships, the competitions were all a huge part of my college experience. We’re excited to be a part of a show that documents the real ups and downs of this interesting world that many know nothing about. It’s going to be an interesting journey, and I look forward to being a part of it.”
The show is set to premiere Wednesday, May 13 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT before moving to a regular slot on Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT beginning May 20.
Deadline also reports that Legend’s production company has signed a evelopment deal with Pop to develop more shows for the network.
