John Legend is opening up about his relationship with Chrissy Teigen. In a new episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, he discussed their love life and their parenthood journey, which included the lifesaving medical induction abortion Chrissy had in 2020.

Recalling the pregnancy loss, John said he felt a “strong sense of grief but also this powerlessness because you know you want to be there to protect, you want to be there to help, but you literally can’t do anything to really solve the core problem here.” Having seen his mother’s unhealthy reactions to family trauma as a child, he adds his goal was to be the “best partner for her, so I can buttress her, support her and make sure she responded in the healthiest way she could.”

“We were able to get through it, but it was tough,” he continued.

Chrissy underwent a procedure in 2020 that saved her life following pregnancy complications. Though she initially said she’d suffered a miscarriage, John says she told fans the truth knowing others go through similar experiences. The community they built, he adds, showed them love through their tough time and still thank them for sharing their story.

Chrissy and John met on the set of his music video “Stereo,” courtesy of their mutual friend, who’d recruited her as a model for the shoot. With 10 years as a married couple and kids LunaMiles and Estito raise, the singer shares a secret to keeping the spice in the bedroom.

“Lock the door if you have kids!” John says. “Our kids have a way of finding their way into our room so if we ever wanna have a good time, we gotta lock the door.”
