ABC News RadioIt’s been more than two years since John Legend released his last album, Love in the Future, and after telling ABC Radio earlier this month that new music is coming, he’s now saying you can expect that new music this year.
“[I’m] just in the studio working on my album, that’s the main focus, and working with some really talented musicians and hopefully we’ll make something beautiful,” Legend tells MTV News. “I think I’ll be finished in the next couple months and then I’ll probably put it out either summer [or] early fall. It will be this year for sure.”
The year certainly promises to be a busy one for Legend. He is an executive producer of Underground, a ten-part series about slaves escaping from a Georgia plantation that debuts March 9 on WGN. Legend also appears as a musician in the movie La La Land starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone that opens July 15.
And, of course, the Oscar and Grammy award winner and wife Chrissy Teigen are preparing for the arrival of their first child, a daughter. “I’m really excited to see how she takes it all in,” he says, “and hopefully I’ll be a good guide and mentor for her.”
