John Witherspoon cause of death revealed as coronary heart disease

Steve Granitz/WireImageLegendary actor John Witherspoon‘s official cause of death has now been revealed.

According to his death certificate, obtained by People, Witherspoon died on October 30 from a heart attack while suffering from coronary artery disease. The certificate also states that Witherspoon, 77, suffered from obesity and hypertension, which contributed to his death.

As previously reported, the Friday star’s home going service last week brought out a star-studded list of guests, including Ice CubeChris TuckerDavid LettermanShawn Wayans and Robert Townsend.

During the ceremony, Cube called the comedian “one of the funniest people” he’s ever known.

“He’s been funny my whole life,” Cube said. “He had one line [on The Robert Townsend Show] and I knew I wanted him to be my father on Friday. His one line was: ‘Why the hell they ain’t playing no Al Green in here?”

Other speakers included Shawn Wayans, Bill BellamyGeorge Wallace, and members of Witherspoon’s family.

Witherspoon is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Angela Robinson, and two sons.
