Paras Griffin/Getty ImagesJohnny Gill has ascended to the top of Billboard‘s Adult R&B Songs chart with his latest effort, “Soul of a Woman.”
After spending 18 weeks on the chart, the dialed-down ballad has finally climbed from number two to number one. The R&B veteran previously reigned on Adult R&B Songs with his 2016 track, “This One’s For Me and You.”
Gill first rose to prominence during the latter half of the 1980s, as a member of the pioneering R&B group New Edition. Not too long after, the singer then set off on a solo career and delivered a trio of solo albums. In 1997, Gill collaborated with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat to form the supergroup LSG.
Most recently, the crooner has dropped off an accompanying video for “Soul of a Woman,” which features a cameo from Tiffany Haddish.
