Kelly Rowland admits it was difficult having sex after becoming a mother

Kelly Rowland and Tim Witherspoon; Uri Schanker/GC ImagesMother’s Day is more special for Kelly Rowland after she gave birth to her son Titan in 2014.  But she admits it was very difficult resuming having sex with her husband, Tim Witherspoon, after becoming a mother.

“I was ready to have sex and he was not,” she tells the Huffington Post. “I was thinking, what is the problem, and he wanted to be gentle. I was like was no, let’s get this party going.”

Rowland says she also was shy about intimacy because she was concerned her weight gain may have made her less attractive.

“I remember I had a belly after I had my son, and I was actually body-shaming myself,” she says. ”Oh my gosh, am I sexy? My husband was like, ‘Absolutely,’ so he made me feel so comfortable. I adore him.”

For couples in a similar situation, Rowland advises, “You have to be ready, and I think that its something that you can only find between you and your lover and you see what works. You see what positions work. You see the things that really turn you on.”

Rowland says communication is the key to resuming sex after childbirth.

“I think its important to have a strong support system whether that’s your partner, your husband, your spouse, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, whoever,” she says. “I think that you have to have a sounding board, somebody who you can talk to about everything. I felt like if I wanted anything, if I needed anything, I could tell him.”

Rowland and her husband celebrated their third wedding anniversary on May 9.
