A svelte Kelly Rowland dons a camo-print crop tank and black bikini bottom on the cover of SHAPE magazine‘s October 2013 issue. In the mag, the X Factor judge spills on how hard she worked to reach her fitness goal.

“I work out five or six times a week,” she admits. “I feel better, look better, sleep better….Being fit makes me feel sexy. Isn’t that everyone’s goal when they work out, to look good naked?”

The 32-year-old singer credits her trainer, Jeanette Jenkins, for keeping her fitness routine in check. “As I’m getting older, the Rowland family trait of having bigger bottoms is taking its toll on my hips and butt. The other day, [my trainer] had me doing squats that were so hard I wanted to kill her,” Kelly says. “But my behind is getting higher and tighter. Exercise really does change your body.”

Most people battle the dieting aspect of staying fit, which Kelly has mastering when it comes to eliminating her food cravings.  “When I want a steak, I grill some Portobello mushrooms and put a little goat cheese on them,” she says. “And I’ve learned to satisfy my sweet tooth by replacing Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups with half a tablespoon of almond butter on half a banana.”

The October issue of SHAPE magazine is available on newsstands now.
