ABC/Rick RowellThe first official project under Kenya Barris‘ new Netflix deal has been set.
The streaming platform announced on Friday that Barris will co-executive produce and star alongside Rashida Jones in a series called Black Excellence.
According to Netflix, the series is inspired by Barris’ “irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race, and culture.” It’s described as a “family sitcom,” but done in a unique way.
Hale Rothstein, who’s worked with Barris’ on both black-ish and grown-ish, is also co-executive producing the project, along with Jones.
In addition to his Netflix deal, Barris is also writing for various films, including the upcoming Shaft reboot and next year’s Coming to America.
