Keyshia Cole is happy with the way things are going with the work on her forthcoming album, especially since she’s parted ways with Interscope Records.

“We’re independent and that’s what we’re focusing on and I’m really excited about that, because I’ve been an artist in the business for 10 plus years and for me to be able to do it myself, whatever it is, I’m going to be proud of this moment,” she says in an interview with ThatGrapeJuice.net.

The singer adds that she’s making great progress in the studio. “We’ve definitely been recording, for a little while, and I think this week I’m going to pick three songs that I feel like can be a potential single,” she says.

So what direction is she heading in? “Vocally its been a minute — like somebody said on Twitter, ‘Keyshia, when are you going to sing again,'” she says adding that she getting to a “Kanye West level” where she’s excited about making music again.

As Cole continues to record the follow-up to last year’s Point of No Return, she hints that fans will get new music “in the next few weeks.”

Meanwhile, fans can catch her BET reality series, Keyshia Cole: All In, which airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m ET.
