“Stop hiding yourself,” she sings in the compelling song, in a bid for listeners to heal from their pasts and live truthfully in the present.
“‘Mirror’ has gifted me with the keys to being okay, to understanding myself, to accept myself, to love myself, to live in my own truth,” she writes in an essay in Essence magazine.
“It’s never too late to take the time to truly love yourself, to shine and be exactly who you are.”
The daughter of late singer-songwriter legend Donny Hathaway will perform at the 2016 Essence Festival in New Orleans on Saturday, July 2.
