Lauryn Hill stars in her first fashion campaign

by

Ruffhouse/ColumbiaFollowing the cancellation of several dates on her Miseducation tour, Lauryn Hill is now starring in her first fashion campaign.

Hill has teamed with the Woolrich clothing company and is featured in the campaign for its “American Soul since 1830” collection, according to British Vogue.

The eight-time Grammy Award winner collaborated with stylist Mel Ottenberg, whose credits include working with Rihanna, and he says Hill assumed creative control of the project.

“She marches to her own beat, and with this project, she got to completely show her instincts as a creator,” Ottenberg tells British Vogue. “So much of her vibe is in the pictures, it’s so cool.”

The photo shoot took place in the same Harlem theater where Hill shot her “Doo Wop (That Thing)“ video in 1998.

“We had her in all these really wild looks that symbolize who she is now as an artist,,” says Ottenberg, “and the new approach of Woolrich.”

Hill sings an acoustic version of “Ex-Factor” from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in a trailer for the campaign. The “American Soul since 1830” collection is expected in stores later this year.
