Alex HarperRapper Lecrae says it’s tough dealing with the loss of his friend New Orleans’ DJ Black N Mild, who passed away March 19th stemming complications from the coronavirus. His friend Slim Thugg revealed he tested positive for COVID-19 last week.
“That’s tough because you never know how it’s going to affect somebody from one person to the next,” Lecrae tells ABC Audio.
The “Set Me Free” rapper says we need to be mindful of the new reality upon us. He believes we must all take necessary precautions like washing your hands and using sanitizer to reduce the spread of the virus.
However, he hopes people realize “this is a season, its not life.”
This season, Lecrae’s at home having Nerf fights with his children and binge-watching shows on Netflix like Breaking Bad, Narcos and Snowfall.
Despite being under quarantine, he’s still at work on his upcoming album.
Restoration will detail his struggles of competing alongside the biggest artists in the industry due to his faith-based music.
“They will struggle with playing my music in rotation with everything else on the radio. They’ll struggle to play it alongside Beyoncé or Migos or whatever because they know I’m a devout follower of Jesus,” Lecrae admits to ABC Audio. “They think that music should only play on Sundays. And I think that’s the toughest part is that I want my music to touch people every day of the week, just not on Sunday.”
He adds, “But you know it’s hard for people to get you out of that box.”
Lecrae also revealed he had “perfect features” from John Legend and others on Restoration, which is expected this spring.
