ABC/Ida Mae AstutePrince would have turned 60 years old on June 7, and one of his favorite singers, Ledisi, remembers that he told her how happy he was to have a very specific thing in common with him.

“Prince said to me, ‘It’s great that you have one name,’” she tells ChicagoTribune.com.

The 12-time Grammy nominee performed with Prince several times — the first time was ten years ago at the Coachella music festival. She was also featured on the song “Ain’t Gonna Miss U When U’re Gone” on his album Plectrum Electrum.

”He taught me a lot of things. I miss him,” she says. “Prince is, like, an ultimate mentor.”

Ledisi kicked off her Let Love Rule tour May 24 in Raleigh, NC, with Melanie Fiona and Tweet serving as her special guests. The tour continues through June 17 in Dallas, and Ledisi says she loves performing with two veteran female artists.

“I’m honored to have them along,” she says.
