The Chi creator announced on Instagram that she’as partnered with Def Jam recordings to launch Hillman Grad Records. Waithe says her label will focus on ways to “develop the next generation of underrepresented artists.”

“At @HillmanGradProductions we believe in identifying and amplifying new talent, and we want to continue to do that in the music industry,” she wrote in part. “Thank you @DefJam for making dreams come true!”

“Never give up on the desires that keep you up at night!” she added.

Waithe’s partnership with Def Jam comes just a week after the Emmy-winning writer announced the inaugural class of Waithe’s Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab. Her 10-month, tuition-free fellowship includes one-on-one instruction from industry experts, workshops set to enhance ingenuity in generating narratives, and professional development to polish and broaden the 25 participants’ creative skills.
