Universal PicturesLena Waithe is feeling pretty good knowing that Lauryn Hill is coming out with new music for her latest project.
After it was announced that Hill would release a new song for the upcoming Queen & Slim soundtrack, Waithe took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the official news.
“Honored,” she wrote, captioning a write-up of the announcement, which read, “@MsLaurynHill is set to make an appearance on the upcoming #QueenAndSlim soundtrack, making it her first solo appearance in five years.”
As previously noted, the 17-track soundtrack will feature songs from Ms. Lauryn Hill, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby, Vince Staples featuring 6lack X Mereba, Tiana Major 9 & EARTHGANG, Coast Contra featuring BJ The Chicago Kid and Syd, plus classic songs by Roy Ayers, Bilal and Mike Jones.
“I wanted the soundtrack for Queen & Slim to showcase the historical evolution of Black music, from its roots in blues and soul, to modern bounce, hip hop and R&B — much like we used to see in film soundtracks in the 90s,” said Queen & Slim director Melina Matsoukas in statement about the soundtrack.
“We partnered with Motown because of their legacy within Black music. I am honored…and cannot wait for audiences to hear what each artist has created.”
The film, executive-produced by Waithe, stars Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith as a new couple who go on the run after a minor traffic infraction turns deadly. It also stars Chloe Sevigny, Indya Moore, Bokeem Woodbine and Jahi Winston.
The Queen & Slim soundtrack drops November 15. The film hits theaters on November 27.
