Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Lawsuit Over French Tabloid Story

by

ABC/Richard HarbaughLeonardo DiCaprio has beat an international tabloid in court following erroneous reports that his rumored girlfriend Rihanna was pregnant.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor sued the magazine Oops! and was just awarded 8,000 euros in damages, which is about $8900, by a French court. The judge ruled based on the “absence of any evidence to accredit” for the salacious story and noted that the article is not “legitimate public information.”

While the magazine argued that DiCaprio never denied a relationship with Rihanna, he was compensated for “moral damages resulting from violence to his private life and his image rights,” according to documents obtained by THR.

In addition, the French courts have also ordered the publication to retract their false claims as well as run the following headline on its next cover: “OOPS! SENTENCED TO DEMAND FOR LEONARDO DI CAPRIO.”

The initial story ran in the May 13 edition of the magazine and featured photos of him and the 27-year-old pop star with the headline, “Rihanna Pregnant With Leonardo’s Baby: He Doesn’t Want The Baby.”
