ABC/Adam RosePharrell Williams has teamed with the British rock band Coldplay to release the first single from the Global Citizen EP1 called “E-Lo” featuring Jozzy.
Coldplay recorded the song under the pseudonym Los Unidades. The Afro-beat track is one of four songs on the EP which will be released Friday. Proceeds from the EP will support Global Citizen’s campaign to end extreme poverty.
Pharrell will be among the performers at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 concert on December 2 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Trevor Noah will host the event which will also feature Jay-Z, Beyonce, Usher, Naomi Campbell, Gayle King, and Tyler Perry.
At the event, Oprah Winfrey will give a special keynote address honoring the legacy of South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela. Mandela was born in 1918 and would have turned 100 this year.
