The global icon tells Paper magazine for its special Las Vegas issue that the last celebrity she remembers being that captivated by was her late friend Prince.
“There’s always people who I admire and when I see them [I get starstruck],” she begins.
“The last time I saw Prince, he came to my dressing room. I had said I wanted to go visit him to say hello because we’d met before.”
Mimi continues, “When he was living, we had had lots of conversations, and he helped me through certain moments that were not easy. I don’t want to get too depressing, but I was having a conversation with Prince and then I looked around the room and I noticed that everyone in the room was looking up and staring like they couldn’t believe he was standing there.”
Mariah also says she “would always be a little bit starstruck” every time she saw another late icon, Michael Jackson.
The singer, who has a Las Vegas Christmas production planned, also reveals to Paper what it’s like to be her in three simple words: “So many things.”
But when asked where she would tell friends to go if they’re coming to Sin City for the first time, Mariah had an unusual answer.
“Well, if they have kids they should take them to the dentist that [my kids] go to, because it’s a kids’ dentist and they have all these games there,” she says.
“I’m sitting here waiting to go to the dentist, like, ‘Let me get to Vegas so I can get to the dentist!'”
