ABC/Randy HolmesMariah Carey‘s rep has responded to numerous reports that the singer and her billionaire fiance James Packer had called off their engagement.
In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, the rep said, “Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since. The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah. James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world.”
The rep added, “They are trying to work it out. Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it, and plan to release an official statement together about their future.”
The reports claimed that James’ reluctance to participate in Mariah’s reality show, coupled with his annoyance at her spending habits, led to the couple to call it quits.
Packer and Mariah were first linked in June of 2015, and he proposed to her in January with a 35-carat diamond ring. Mariah was still wearing the ring on October 22, when she and her former husband Nick Cannon and their twins attended a Halloween party in L.A.
