Mario makes a comeback with new single “Drowning”

by

Gary Gershoff/WireImageAfter not releasing a new album since 2009, Mario is making a comeback with his new single and video, “Drowning,” which he released Friday.

In the song about the battle between lust versus love, the two-time Grammy Award winner sings in his signature falsetto, “I’m sinking, I’m not swimming, please stop me from drowning.”

Mario sounds like the song was inspired by his own love life as he tells Billboard, “This experience was an intense one for me, and sonically, the bittersweet chord progressions match the emotion of the story I’m telling.”

“Drowning” is the first single from Mario’s upcoming fifth solo album, Dancing Shadows, to be released later this year on his own New Citizen label.

Mario reached the peak of his career in 2004 with his platinum Turning Point album featuring the single “Let Me Love You” which was number one on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for eleven weeks.
