Republic RecordsIt’s been a long haul but Maroon 5 has finally managed to rise from the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 to #1, dethroning Drake after 10 weeks.
Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” has been hanging out at #2 for six weeks, patiently waiting while Drake racked up week after record week with “In My Feelings.” But now, Drizzy’s smash has dropped to #2.
In ascending to number one, “Girls Like You” has ended a record 34-week streak of nothing but rap songs atop the Billboard Hot 100. The last time a pop song was #1 was way back in January, when Camila Cabello’s “Havana” was on top.
After that, the #1 spot was occupied by Drake’s “God’s Plan,” followed by his song “Nice for What,” followed by Childish Gambino‘s “This Is America;” Post Malone‘s “Psycho” featuring Ty Dolla $ign; XXXTentacion‘s “Sad!;” Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin‘s “I Like It;” and then “In My Feelings.”
“Girls Like You” is Maroon 5’s fourth #1 hit, and the band’s first since 2012’s “One More Night.” They now are the group with the most Hot 100 #1s in the 2000s and 2010s. They were previously tied with The Black Eyed Peas, Destiny’s Child and Outkast, all of whom have had three.
Meanwhile, “Girls Like You” featured artist Cardi B notches her #1 hit, following “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It.”
