Marsha Ambrosius describes the Essence Festival as a madhouse full of so much talent

by

Dez PhillipsThe Essence Festival concerts kick off tonight at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Snoop Dogg, Ledisi and Miguel among the stars performing on the main stage this evening.  Marsha Ambrosius, who’ll be performing later on in the weekend, says the festival is “a madhouse” — but in a good way.

In addition to the Friday concerts, Missy ElliottRemy MaMary J. BligeXscape and Janet Jackson will also perform throughout the weekend, and there will be  many more artists entertaining in the intimate Superlounges.  Since some of these shows take place at the same time, fans have to decide which performances they’ll be attending.  But Marsha says that’s half the fun.

The British singer, who’ll be joining Kevin Ross and Major in the “For The Soul” show Saturday night in the Superlounges, tells ABC Radio, “This is how Essence does — they have such a superstar lineup that you’re trying to figure out, ‘Okay, if Marsha’s on 8 o’clock maybe I’ll catch the first half of her, and run downstairs, watch Mary J. Blige‘… And then, ‘Oh no, Jill Scott’s in the other room…!'”

She adds,”It’s just a madhouse full of so much talent to be a part of. And it’s sad that sometimes [performers] get to miss your favorite artist, because bottom line is, you’re someone’s favorite artist too, and they’re there to see you.”

Essence Fest continues until July 8. For more information, including a full schedule of events, go to the Essence Fest website.
