ABC/Rick RowellMary J. Blige is steadily racking up the acting roles.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned Blige, who earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Dee Rees’ Mudbound, will star in the coming-age-drama The Violent Heart. She joins Lukas Haas and previously announced stars Grace Van Patten and Jovan Adepo.

The feature, set in the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee, follows college-bound student named Cassie, who falls for Daniel, a local mechanic who dreams of becoming a Marine.  But during their romance, disturbing details from Daniel’s “tragic and violent” emerge.

Blige will play Nina, a mother whose daughter was murdered, and whose husband, a Marine, is deployed in Afghanistan.

This is the latest project for Blige, who’ll be seen in this month’s Netflix series The Umbrella Academy and the upcoming horror thriller Body Cam.
