Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey nominated for Golden Globes

Courtesy of NetflixMary J. Blige has received two Golden Globe nominations: one for acting, and one for songwriting.

Mary is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Mudbound, the Netflix movie about two World War II veterans — one white, one black, — who return to rural Mississippi and struggle to adjust to civilian life.

Her competition in that category includes Allison Janney for I, TonyaLaurie Metcalf for Lady Bird, and Octavia Spencer for The Shape of Water.

Mary is also up for Best Original Song from a Motion Picture for “Mighty River,” a song from Mudboundthat she co-wrote with Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson.   

Mariah Carey is nominated in that same category for “The Star,” the ballad she co-wrote with Marc Shaiman from the animated Christmas movie of the same name.

Mariah and Mary are facing off against fellow pop star Nick Jonas, who’s nominated for “Home,” the song he co-wrote from the upcoming animated movie Ferdinand.

Also nominated: Coco’s “Remember Me,” written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the team who brought you Frozen; and the Oscar-winning duo of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for “This Is Me,” from the movie The Greatest Showman.

They also wrote the lyrics for all of the songs in La La Land.

The 75th Golden Globes will air Sunday, January 7, 2018 on NBC, with Seth Meyers as host.
