You can argue all day about whether Mathew Knowles is trying to capitalize off his daughter Beyonce‘s success.  But if you ask him, he’s the reason for it.

“I’m not just Beyoncé’s father,” the record label executive told the New York Post‘s Page Six. “People want to brand me as that. I’m the brains behind the success.”

Knowles recently announced an upcoming, day-long boot camp, dubbed “The Entertainment Industry: How Do I Get In?” That has some people claiming he’s capitalizing on his famous daughter’s success.

“Let me tell you what it’s not — that I’m trying to cash out on Beyoncé,” Knowles said of his seminar, taking place on October 24 in Houston. “Nothing to do with that.”

Knowles, who lectured at the collegiate level for 10 years, says he’s been doing various seminars long before he severed business ties with Queen Bey in 2011.  “[It’s the] same course, same price, that I gave in Barbados. I’ve given similarities of the seminar in Paris. So it’s not something that’s new,” he explained. “For eight years I’ve taught here in Houston at Texas Southern University. As an educator, this is what I do for a living. This seminar is just an extension of that.”

Lastly, he squashed the rumor that he’s been at odds with Beyonce. “I spent the day with Blue Ivy and Beyoncé a couple of months ago,” he said. “And actually hope to see them next week or the week after and spend another day doing Play-Doh with Blue Ivy.”
