by

Universal Music GroupMelanie Fiona is thrilled to be a part of the Game of Thrones mixtape, Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2. The singer tells ABC Radio how she got involved with the offshoot of HBO’s hit fantasy series.

“The opportunity found me because they heard that I was a huge fan and then, you know of course, it was a no-brainer. I love the show, I love making music, I love the song that we created for the project and it’s definitely an element of cool, which I think is great and is current in pop-culture right now,” she says. “So I’m really, really thankful to be a part of the movement.”

The singer, who recorded an original song called “Fight Through It,” revealed how the song came together. “We wanted to capture the vibe of where I’m at musically right now and deliver something that would be unique to the project, so it’s got its own life,” she says.

The project, which was released on iTunes as a free download on Thursday, a week ahead of it’s originally announced March 17 release date, also includes contributions from Estelle, Snoop Dogg, Method Man, Stalley, Ty Dolla $ign and Talib Kweli.

The fifth season of Game of Thrones will premiere April 12 on HBO.
