Michael B. Jordan says ‘Just Mercy’s focus is Supreme Court litigator Bryan Stevenson

by

ABC/Paula LoboMichael B. Jordan is giving fans another reason to tune into his legal drama Just Mercy, now that it’s available for streaming.

Prior to its 2019 Christmas Day release, Jordan told ABC Audio that the film, which is based on attorney Bryan Stevenson’s 2014 New York Times best-selling memoir of the same name, isn’t just about Stevenson’s clients, but rather the civil right’s activist real-life journey to help others get proper legal representation.

Jordan, who plays the attorney in Just Mercy, says Stevenson worked to make time for him, even though he was was “extremely busy.”

“He was in and out of the Supreme Court, fighting cases,” Jordan reveals. “The very thing that this movie is based on everyday. And which is amazing.”

Like Jordan says, Just Mercy centers on Stevenson fighting for justice for his clients. One particular client, played by Jamie Foxx, is Walter McMillian, a young black man sentenced to death in 1987 in Alabama for a crime he didn’t commit.

“But he still found time to come to set and answer my phone calls and text messages,” Jordan continues, referring to Stevenson. “And, you know, allowing me to kind of be a sponge. He allowed me to come jump in his back pocket and follow him around as much as I could. So I spent a fair share amount of time with him getting to know him and the work that he’s doing.” (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)

Just Mercy, also starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Rob Morgan and Brie Larson, is now available to stream.
