Michelle Williams has released an uplifting video for “If We Had Your Eyes,” the first single off her forthcoming album, Journey to Freedom.
Through different story lines, the former Destiny’s Child singer depicts powerful messages in the Derek Blanks-directed clip, which boasts cameos from LeToya Luckett and Harmony Samuels, who produced the track.
“This album was actually a call, it was something that I just felt was so heavy to do,” Michelle says in the behind-the-scenes footage for the visual, which was inspired by a homeless man.
After premiering the clip, Michelle tweeted, “Thank you guys soooo much for the love on the new video! Luv ya.” The singer also retweeted one observant fan who noticed that she was paying homage to Trayvon Martin by wearing a hooded sweatshirt at the end of the video.
Journey to Freedom marks the singer’s fourth solo effort and the first since 2008′s Unexpected.
