Mint Condition’s Stokley says doing a solo album is just different

by

Strong Arm MediaMint Condition lead singer and studio drummer Stokley is carving a separate path as a solo artist with his debut album, Introducing Stokley

He tells ABC Radio says that process-wise, working on his own album versus working with the group is “just different.”

Stokley explains, “We all have little studios in our house so… I’m always creating all the time… on the road, at home… With that..all the themes and everything [for my solo music] just came [to] me. Or, I would have a discussion with everybody who I worked with…[like] Wale.”

Wale jumped on Stokely’s track “Way Up.”

He says that his business relationship with the rapper, who’s a “big lover of Mint Condition music,” started when Wale asked him to do some production work with him a few albums back.

“[Wale] gets down to business and does his thing,” Stokley continues.

He also reveals a potential new collaboration with Wale, which should come as a surprise to the rapper’s fans.

“He’s been talking about a go-go album,” says Stokley.

If you’re not familar, go-go is a subgenre of funk which originated in the Washington, D.C. area in the ’60s and ’70s.

“We’ll figure out how to mix it up,” he adds.

“And, y’know, that’d be wonderful to be a part of that.”
