Gary Gershoff/Getty ImagesMonica has teamed up with Kim Kardashian to help release rapper Corey “C-Murder” Miller, who’s currently serving a life sentence for a 2002 murder.

On Sunday, the R&B singer announced plans to work with Kim, human rights attorney Jessica Jackson, and REFORM Alliance’s Erin Haney to help free her ex-boyfriend, whom she was dating at the time of the incident.

“C-Murder and I are bonded by truth, honest, & loyalty. There’s never been a promise broke & I vowed to seek help,” Monica wrote on Instagram. “Corey deserves to come home to his girls and be the father they need, be the artist & leader he’s always been as well as spread hope to those who have also experienced this.”

She continued, explaining a tearful conversation she had with The Chi actress Lala Anthony and Kim, detailing why she “knew” Miller was innocent.

Kim pledged to help Miller return home to his kids and seek “true justice” for Thomas on Twitter, demanding that the person who “actually” killed him be held responsible.

Miller is serving time at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. He shared his appreciation for their efforts on Instagram, acknowledging Kim for “changing lives of those of us that have been forgotten.” In another post, he thanked Monica for putting together a “team that could change the outcome of a very unfair fate.”

As mentioned in BET’s docuseries No Limit Chronicles, Miller — the brother of rapper Master P — had a successful rap career before he was convicted for the second-degree murder of 16-year-old Steve Thomas. Miller and his family have maintained his innocence, alleging several mistakes during the case’s investigation and trial, including recanted witness testimonies, insufficient DNA, and a 10-2 jury conviction, though he was later denied a retrial.
