Mo’Nique is setting the record straight about Mariah Carey‘s long-running reputation for being a diva.
“Everybody says [Mariah]’s a diva. She’s this, she’s that,” Mo’Nique told the talk show Mr. Nashville Talks. “That was the most professional, beautiful woman that I’ve ever had the pleasure to play with.”
Mo’Nique starred with Mariah in Lee Daniels 2009 drama, Precious, and earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing Precious’ abusive mother opposite Carey as Precious’ concerned social worker, Ms. Weiss.
“When I tell you, she showed up and she showed out,” Mo’Nique continued about Mariah. “So all that diva s***, baby, I don’t know where it comes from. People get confused on what we deserve to making us divas.”
But even if she were a diva, Mo’Nique says Carey’s earned her right to make certain demands at this point in her career.
“That’s an unfair rep that she gets. She deserves to be respected,” said Mo’Nique.
