Courtesy of NetflixRashida Jones is giving fans a closer look into the life of her father, iconic composer and record producer Quincy Jones.
Netflix has announced Quincy, a new documentary about Jones that will take an intimate look into the music legend’s life and showcase how he “transcended racial and cultural boundaries.”
The film will be directed by Rashida and filmmaker Alan Hicks. It’s set to have a global release of September 21, as well as a limited theatrical release.
Jones, one of only 18 people to receive an EGOT– an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony– is the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time, with a total of 79 nominations and 27 wins.
In addition to working on some of Michael Jackson‘s greatest records, Jones also co-produced Steven Spielberg’s 1985 adaptation of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple, which earned eleven Oscar nominations and marked his start as a film producer.
“It’s rare that somebody who has lived as much life as my dad is still interested in growing and knowing the next generation,” Rashida Jones said in a statement. “He is such a man of action and accomplishments, but we were so lucky to spend real time with him, to let him reflect on life and the larger picture. I feel honored to be able to share that with audiences all over the world.”
Earlier this year, the 85-year-old Jones raised eyebrows by claiming in an interview that, among other things, he once dated Ivanka Trump, that Marlon Brando and Richard Pryor were lovers, that he knows who really killed John F. Kennedy and that the Beatles were “the worst musician in the world.”
