New Music Friday: Here’s new albums from EST Gee, Smoove’L, J.I., Too Short & E-40

Louisville newcomer EST Gee released his debut album, I Still Don’t Feel NunOn the 16-track album, Gee gives listeners his take on his hometown in Kentucky, home of the Louisville Slugger. To showcase his cinematic rhymes and hard-hitting hooks, he enlisted features from heavy hitters Yo Gotti, YFN Lucci, Kevin Gates, Babyface Ray and 42 Dugg.

EST Gee connected with hometown friend, rapper Jack Harlow on “The Department,” whileMoneybagg Yo joins the remix of “Special.”

Rapper J. I. returns with the third installment of his album series, Hood Life Krisis and a music video for “R&B S***” featuring rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The video was filmed in New York, a nod to their home state. 

Next up is Brooklyn rapper Smoove’L with the release of his debut studio album, Ice Cups and Shootouts via Run Music/Interscope Records. Accompanied by a music video for “4 The Fashion,”  the 17-track album was preceded by his single, “Period” and his breakout hit, “Apollo,” which was added to the New York Times’ “Best Songs of 2020” playlist.

For his incredible talent and catchy hooks, Smoove’L was recognized by Vulture, who listed him on their “Guide to New York Rap’s Generation.”

And finally, ahead of their highly-anticipated Verzuz battle, West Coast rap legends Too $hort & E-40 released their joint project, Ain’t Gone Do It. It features appearances from rappers Bosslife Big Spence and G Eazy on the “10k remix).”

The Verzuz battle between Too $hort & E-40 goes down December 19th at 8 p.m. EST on Apple Music and on Instagram Live.
