As the clock struck midnight into Tuesday morning, Nicki’s mother Carol Maraj celebrated her daughter’s 38th year around the sun with a heartfelt message on Instagram.
“On this night, 38 years ago, I cherished every moment, for it would be the last night you would hear my heart beat from the inside and tomorrow would be the first day of me seeing my heart beat on the outside,” she wrote.
Carol shared one photo of herself holding Nicki as a baby and another of her pregnant. “The joy of being able to hold my baby girl took over and I couldn’t wait to meet you,” she continued. “I think you wanted to meet me too because you came bright and early. #amotherslove.”
Since her monumental Pink Friday debut, Nicki Minaj has inspired thousands of girls to wear Barbie chainz, bright pink lipstick and two-toned pink wigs, while spitting the most aggressive and gritty rap lyrics — giving male rappers like Lil Wayne and Drake a run for their money.
The Young Money Entertainment signee landed the #4 spot among Billboard‘s top R&B/Hip Hop artists of the 2010s, after tallying the most songs on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart among women in the list’s history, with 112 entries.
Spotify‘s year-end review also found the “Yikes” rapper to be one of the top 10 female artists in 2020, after landing 2.3 billion streams among over 153 million listeners across 92 countries.
Even sweeter: this will be Nicki’s first birthday as a mother, after welcoming her first born son with her husband Kenneth Petty, nearly four months ago.
