Parker will play Deputy Superintendent Samatha Miller, “a progressive, ardent proponent of police reform” who wants to help Jason Beghe‘s Detective Voight — known for his violent tactics — as well as his crew, adapt to new police guidelines and protocols.

After new broke, Parker took to Instagram to share excitement about working with her dear friend, actor and director Eriq La Salle.

“So excited to join this amazing cast, playing this timely role and to be directed by my friend the one & only Eriq La Salle,” Parker wrote, using the hashtags #InsideTheBlueWall and #ChangeIsGonnaCome.

Like many of today’s cop shows, Chicago P.D. is expected to address the topic of police brutality in the aftermath of George Floyd’s May death at the hands of law enforcement officials, which sparked nationwide protests and conversations about social injustice. Chicago P.D. was created as a spinoff from Chicago Fire and has recently been renewed for three more seasons.

Parker most recently appeared in the last two seasons of Fox’s Empire as Giselle Barker.
