Outkast Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2004

by

Epic RecordsOutkast turned down an opportunity most artists dream of. Appearing on ESPN’s Radio’s The Dan LeBatard ShowBig Boi revealed the rap duo actually turned down the chance to play the Super Bowl.

Back in 2004, NFL organizers apparently offered the duo limited stage time, which apparently didn’t work for Andre 3000, who wanted to perform their hits “Hey Ya!” and “The Way You Move” in their entirety.

“[Andre] didn’t want to cut the songs; he wanted to do the full songs,” Big Boi revealed. “He said, ‘Nah, can’t do it.'”

Big Boi says he tried to convince Andre to change mind, to no avail.  “We laugh about it now. Hopefully they invite us back,” Big Boi said.

Instead of Outkast performing, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson graced the Super Bowl stage and caused the world’s most talked-about wardrobe malfunction.
