Disney Channel/Image Group LAPharrell Williams has released a new track from the upcoming Taraji. P. Henson film, Hidden Figures.
The Grammy winner premiered “Runnin’,” which he wrote and produced, Monday on YouTube. In the funky, percussive track, Pharrell’s lyrics reflect the film’s plot about three African-American women overcoming sexism and racial discrimination to become pioneers in the space program.
He sings, “I know they say to crawl before you walk, but in my mind I already jogged.” He adds, “If I stand still I cannot get far, they want the moon, I’m on mars.”… I don’t want a free ride, I’m just sick and tired of running.”
In addition to Henson, Hidden Figures stars Janelle Monae and Octavia Spencer as three female mathematicians who were integral to the success of the first NASA space missions. Pharrell serves as one of the producers of the film which will open Christmas Day.
