Arista RecordsBeyoncé is celebrating Halloween by paying tribute to one of her favorite singers, Toni Braxton.
Queen Bey perfectly recreated the cover image for Toni’s 1993 self-titled debut album on Instagram, with the caption “Phoni Braxton.”
“Sending love and adoration to one of our talented legends,” Beyoncé commented. “Thank you for the countless bops. Your tone, your beauty, your range, and your God-given talent is treasured. Loving you always. Have a Happy Halloween my Kings and Queens.”
Toni loved the tribute, posting her 1993 photo next to Beyoncé’s recreation. “Phoni Braxton!? NEVER!!!” wrote Braxton. “How do you look better than me on MY album cover? I LOVE IT, Such a superstar! Thanks for the love sis! Happy Halloween Who run the world…GIRLS! GIRLS! @beyonce”
Beyoncé was 12 years old when Toni released the album in July of 1993. The debut was certified eight times platinum and featured five hits: “Another Sad Love Song,” “Breathe Again,” “Seven Whole Days,” “I Belong to You,” and “How Many Ways.”
Braxton won a Grammy in 1994 for Best New Artist, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Another Sad Love.” The following year, she also won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Breathe Again.”
