Ahead of the Global Citizen Prize awards special this weekend, the organization partnered with Grammy-winning musician Raphael Saadiq to executive produce their compilation album, Stand Up.

The eight-song masterpiece features contributions from Grammy-winning artist PJ Morton, as well as Jordin Sparks, Andra Day, Masego, GoldLink, and Ari Lennox, among others, singing re-imagined versions of music’s most iconic songs.

PJ Morton and British singer Yola sang The O’Jays’ classic “Give The People What They Want,” while vocal powerhouses Tori Kelly and JoJo showed out with a powerful rendition of Aretha Franklin‘s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”

New Orleans natives Lucky Daye and Big Freedia teamed up with rising singer Bjrnck for “Sorrow Tears and Blood” from the legendary reggae giant Fela Kuti.

Stand Up “aims to restore hope, and inspire and celebrate the heroism of leaders and activists around the world,” according to a press release.

“It was an honor to work on STAND UP with Global Citizen and such incredible artists, who all came together for this passion project in a year that has been so difficult for so many,” said Saadiq. “During this time, music has played a key role in keeping us all connected and my hope for those who listen is to feel empowered to create change.”

The Global Citizen Prize award ceremony premieres on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, hosted by John Legend.
