Paras Griffin/Getty ImagesMaroon 5‘s keyboardist PJ Morton has been having a blast sharing and learning tons of Black entertainment on his trivia game show, The Culture.
On the show, PJ tests the knowledge of his celebrity friends and entertainers by asking questions including who starred in classic films such as The Preacher’s Wife and Malcolm X, and the name of the family hotel on The Jamie Foxx Show. On the music tip, he drops a few music gems and asks questions about music legends such as Mary J. Blige and Donna Summer, who the first Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for “Hot Stuff” in 1979.
For its sixth episode last week, PJ revealed his 2019 appearance on Terrell Grice‘s YouTube show inspired him to create his acoustic project, The Piano Album, featuring his Grammy-winning hits “Say So” and “How Deep is Your Love.”
PJ said he fully embraced the great feedback he received from viewers, as he sang covers of Beyoncé and Stevie Wonder while flexing his piano skills.
“As a musician and a producer, I’ve always heard my music with instrumentation, horns, and strings and all these things,” PJ shared with Terrell. “When I did the show, the response was so great on me just playing and singing, so I said, ‘I’ll just do an album playing the piano.'”
As the seventh episode approaches, this week’s special guest will be music-friendly with Grammy-winning producers Jermaine Dupri, Johntá Austin and Bryan-Michael Cox.
