Prince’s Second Wife Fighting Release of Divorce Records

by

NPG Records/Chelsea LaurenPrince‘s ex-wife, Manuela Testolini, is trying to keep her private life with the late singer private.

The 39-year-old, who’s currently married to R&B singer Eric Benét, is fighting to prevent her divorce records from being released to Minnesota’s Star Tribune newspaper. The publication states Testolini’s attorney, Curtis Smith, argued in a court hearing against their request to Testolini’s 2006 divorce records from the late musician. Star Tribune‘s attorney, Leita Walker, believes that the First Amendment and common law gives the newspaper a right to request Testolini and Prince’s divorce records. However, Smith states that the paper waited too long to file its request.

“We think it’s very significant in this case that the Star Tribune sat on their rights,” he tells The Star Tribune. The paper counteracted this claim to state that they did not pursue the request for Testolini and Prince’s divorce papers in 2006, because “with limited resources the paper didn’t see news value in fighting for it.”

The hearing, which took place on Thursday, lasted for more than an hour, but a ruling in the case didn’t happen.
