Vince Bucci/Getty ImagesPrince had no known will before he died, according to court documents filed by his sister Tyka Nelson Tuesday. In the paperwork filed in Minnesota, Nelson requests a special administrator be appointed to oversee his estate.
“I do not know of the existence of a will and have no reason to believe that the Decedent [Prince] executed testamentary documents in any form,” she says in the documents.
She asks the judge to declare “the Decedent died intestate,” meaning Prince died without leaving a will. Nelson adds, “A special administrator is needed because no personal representative has been appointed in Minnesota or elsewhere.”
She requests that Bremer Trust, a corporate trust company, be named the administrator. Nelson — who is Prince’s only surviving full sibling — says immediate action is necessary in order to manage Prince’s business interests.
According to Minnesota laws, if Prince didn’t have a will or trust, his estate would be divided between his sister and all five of his half-siblings.
The music icon passed away Thursday at the age of 57. A cause of death has yet to be released.
